Fuel Economy

I want to do long distance trips and fishing on a ski when i buy one, how much do you get off a tank of fuel with your jetski and which model and brand is it? Help would be appreciated.

I own a 2003 GTX Seadoo 155hp (1500cc)... I have been pleasantly surprised at the fuel economy! To date I can travel at a cruising speed of around 35-40mph, and cover a distance of around 100miles or maybe more with the 60litre tank.

I covered 40miles last Saturday, and it took 24litres of fuel to fill... but would add that I was trawling at idle speed for around 1.5 hours; think that it is pretty economical really!

Of course if you want to get anywhere fast, and like running at full throttle (for me that's around 60mph with the low tuque prop fitted - better for pulling biscuits etc) then you will suck through the gas in less than half the distance.

Just another update (for those of you who maybe interested)...

Did around 38miles today on the ski... and as a few of you will know through personal experience the morning was shocking weather wise, so probably burned a little more fuel getting through the chop...

Spent around an hour or so playing around at Eastern beach and running at full noise racing, and again only used 26litres of fuel for the whole day..

With fuel prices of $1.729 per litre, that works out as $1.20 per mile (or for us younger ones out there $0.76cents per km).

Steve's RPX? 215HP seadoo that we test rode today apparently uses 1.5litres per mile (this is when running at the top end of it's range...); that works out to be around $2.60 per mile ($1.62 per km)... but boy what pickup!

I think I would rather loose the additional 20km on the top end speed for the economy!

Woolworths have a deal on now, wife went shopping and the receipt voucher, which I don't usually bother with, gives 20c / ltr off fuel at Shell or Gull up to $100 fill.
Not sure how long it runs for as it's usually only 4c

Thats a bonus, the most I have seen is 10c, I hope its the same for us in Auckland

my recent trip to sargents from h.m.b 2 up and only used $ 14 fuel

I only used $5 coz I hitched a ride back

oh is that the way to save fuel

use to cost me $60 in gas + $30 in smelly bait and burly to go to Sargents and back to HMB in my speed boat with a hungry 135 hp merc on the back.

now it sounds like $15 + a couple of softies for a trip with a 155hp under my seat..
just another reason to go the jetskifishing way!!!
