NAV LIGHTS

just brought some nav lights for ski $10 each at smart marine. The last early morn out with andy was hard to see his ski being black and so i can go earlier and come home in the dark with no probs and be seen out there also put a working light on the rear so can see where my barrel 51's are

They don't make you more visible in the day time though..........

Do they run of your ski or own power source, been thinking of fitting LED's so they don't drain bugger all.

I am in the process of making LED nav lights each side powered with a 9v with their own on/off. Got the LED's, will assemble this weekend as the weather looks like arse.

I was thinking a solar garden light for the rear / anchor light

Solar lights don't work too well in the dark dude......especially if heading out in the morning!! Fishoe would be charging his up with his cigarette lighter

LEDs are all good though for power consumption. However you do need a bright 360 degreee visible white light.

yep im running it from there own batt 3 x lights, fishfinder,and live bait pump, saves the main batt just for starting

you could take a spot light to charge the solar up

lol im talking solar garden lights, they charge to a battery during the day and go all night.

We used them at our campsite at bryants bay to come in from my mates launch at night - We put them either side of this rock when we were making camp during the afternoon, so when we were navigating in from the pirate mothership in our 14 foot tinnie we didnt hit this big mofo of a rock

Got to the boat ramp the other day at about 6am and it was still dark. So got my head lamp torch out and went out looking like a mini light house as I swivelled left and right to watch for on coming traffic. Not sure what the harbour master would have made of it but, he was obviously still in bed!!!!

LOL TJET - Some light is better and safer than none. Anyway a solid white light like your headlamp is compulsory on any vessel when travelling in the dark to make anyone aware that you are there if they have not seen you.


SOFTBAITER - ...... what about a green light????? The red looks good but need to consider how waterproof, mounting location etc.

Why would you bother making your own LED Nav lights when you can buy them ready made, stainless housing, low wattage, waterproof etc etc.

EXACTLY !! All depends on whether you want to drill holes in your ski and how you want to power them ....... so many choices but limited options when you don't want to permanently mount them on your ski.

2xtreme - there are both red and green versions of those LED's i just didnt bother posting links to both

The reason I would make them instead of buying is so I can get exactly what i want. plus already have the battery holders and swtiches, I wont be drilling any holes to fit them and they will be detachable. There are DIY'ers and DIY'ers, one type has trouble making a sandwich.

The link didn't work so I just went searching on the website. Whats you plan with making them detachable as I would be keen to see your idea, as I want to make them detachable for my ski also.

With your reference to sandwiches at least we can catch fish to smoke, and put on sandwiches over this side..... don't sandwiches get a little bland out your way just with butter !!

Haven't been in the jetski fishing scene long, but I have come accross these portible nav lights. I don't use the G-clamp version as in this link, but the exact same light with a suction cup. There are both the red/green and the rear stern lights for $15 in store. I may be worth looking to see if you boys have something similar over there.
