what to wear

Hi Guys
Had a ski a decade back which I fished on, now getting back into it again around bay of plenty.
Wondering what most people wear for wet weather gear to fish. I usually wetsuit, but never get that wet, I see most of the photos look like sailing jackets?
What about pants, boot/ies?

Hi, welcome to the jetskifishing forums. Myself, in the Winter, wear gloves, light full length wet suit, beanie, boots, goggles and a floatation vest. I also take a light jacket for if there is to much wind.
In the Summer I am happy to wera tog shorts, a rash shirt, floatation vest, goggles, cap ( to protect for sunburn) and goggles or glasses.
Hope this is of help and others contribute with their ideas.

'can they be trusted'? Well I was on a 6' surfboard, and from what I understand now I was in the wrong place wrong time, ie inshore between breakers and beach while it was hunting stingray, by chasing them into the shallows, which is exactly what I did when I saw it gunning for me. It caught the same wave as me then at the last minute, like face to face it pulled off the back of the wave. It had just lurched from about 20m away to eye to eye in few secs. Still when I looked at it, it did recognise me as non-food, so yes they can be trusted, just don't behave like prey.

Thanks for the reply, I also have the booties and gloves but was still prety cold 2weeks ago, should've had a hat.

Make sure the boot zips can't scratch the jetski.

Coming into summer I tend to ditch the wetsuit (5mm full length paid nz $150 on special) and use the neoprene shorts as described above ($140) and a 2ml neoprene rash top. Over this if cold I use a windbreaker (a sailors jacket with velcro straps on wrists and waist... $120) and I am yet to be cold!

the one piece suit is as expected completely frustrating when needing to relieve yourself... I have done the zip idea in the past and it is worth every cent!!

I totally agree with 2-extreme... I would rather have a wetsuit on if I loose my ski for some reason!

The newest product on the market is 'Skarkskin', and I am looking at getting a 'parka vest' for around $120. Not cheap, but can be used anywhere with water... I tend to spend more money on clothing than I do on my rig for fishing... at the end of the day keeping warm and protected from the sun has to be the highest priority, especially when you consider the distances we can cover on the ski!

Hi there just thought i would add to the what to wear thing?
I use a dry suit with built in feet and find it great!!! But make sure you get a membrain suit
(not the 5mm wet suit type they would be to hot)
You can somtimes get one on trademe for $150-$350.But MAKE SURE! the seals are good and zip is fine because it can cost lots to replace them. Sooooo good fishing with dry feet!

Thanks Wayne, I need to invest in one of those for my wet outwide missions. Nothing worst than fishing cold and wet.
