I have an Eagle (Lowrance budget brand - same electronics but aimed at more wide spread market than just marine stores in USA)
640C with Lowrance Nauticpath maps of NZ and AUst.
I haven't tried the Navionic maps as the maps came free with the unit - still do at Smartmarine.co.nz

Easy to use, great for closer fishing (if you want 60m or greater then make sure has dual freq transducer as neeed for deeper water)
Not had any problems and run off 2nd battery - 12 volt SLA battery - check the other posts on this from the other day as lots of answers there.

hi,
i have the Lowrance HDS5 with navionics gold charts. bought from smart marine on sale. it has certainly helped my catch rate, and gives some comfort that when i am not catching, it is bacause there are not any fish. there is a lot of water out there to be guessing.
i can watch my 1oz lure track down through the water column, and it shows me jigging it up and down. cant get better much than that. Smile
