Trouble Shooting on PWC issue.

Post  Jetskifishing on Mon Oct 27 2008, 20:30

ORIGINALLY FROM TA FISHER , Not a good weekend really , took ski out sunday afternoon , after 10 minutes ride time the bloody thing died. wouldn't turn over until it cooled down , then quickly died again , got a tow back to the ramp . Started at bach to flush it out , but came to a quick stop once it was warm .

Doesn't sound good does it , any ideas ? lack of water or lack of oil ?

cheers T.A.Fisher

No ideas here... but not something you really want to happen. What make and model ski do you have?

no it's not.
It's a 2001 Yamaha xlt1200

Pulled head and cylinders off , found metal shavings under #1 cylinder and a piece of foreign metal on top of piston , where the hell did that come from?
Top of piston is pitted and so is the head , cylinders all look good , got to try and get all the metal bits out of the crankcase now .

Hey guys , after a long wait on parts I am finally back on the water , one of the centre main bearings had seized due to water in the crankcase at some stage.
Seems the guy I bought it from wasn't really that honest ( no wonder it was cheap !!!)
Luckily I am mechanically minded , as Rollos quoted me $3500 to rebuild , I managed to do the lot for $900 in parts. And a bit of blood / sweat .

All in all had to get crank rebuilt , one new piston , 3 sets of rings and a full gasket set plus a starter relay .

See ya out there !
