Keiths Kingfish
Hi All
ANGLER:Keith Swasbrook
SPECIES: Kingfish
WEIGHT:10KG
LENGTH:97CMS
BAIT:7" Nuclear Chicken on Penn softbait rig with 4 KG Braid
DATE:14-01-09
LOCATION: Matarangi
PWC:2007 FX 160 HO
Was with Matt a lawyer from Auckland at off New Chums beach (a few KMs from Matarangi) late afternoon fish. to rough were we usualy catch the snapper so we went up to the relative calm of the cliff face just north of New Chums beach. At least we were out of the wind... we were fishing as close as we dared to the cliff face in a metre or so swell. first off I was surprised by a John Dory (3kg from memory) then when pulling up my rig WACK reel starts screaming braid running off the reel like a machine. Reel was so hot after this first big run (straight out to sea) that I burnt myself on the wrist.
I played the fish for forty minutes and it had draged me over 300 metres.
I was offered a hand in bring it on board by Matt but felt to be fair had to do it myself even though I had been dragged out into the wind and a bad cross chop...all good fun and my first keeper:
and it just fitted in the bin (with a bend in the middle)

Well actually Hooter I wanted to post a photo of the “Monster” King Snapper I caught on Fraser last year but couldn’t figure out how to do so.
Nice of you to come clean on the Wahoo though LOL.
