FX160 ...how fast???? Empty FX160 ...how fast????

Post  taurangajet Thu Jan 08 2009, 22:34

Was on a fast run home up the river this morning, perfectly flat and in a straight line I could only get 95-98km/h. Got me, the chilli bin and one rod on the board. Should the FX160 be faster than this??? Starting to wonder if I've got an FX140. Will go out at lunchtime to check the cc's?

I don't need anymore speed, my eyes were watering enough but, everyone talks about 100km/h and I was just wondering?

Hi Julian just over 100mph is about it for the fxho 160 my mate and I in perfect flat calm water had two runs each way over about a two mile course the swapped skis 102 mph was it for both skis. If your impeller is worn the speed will reduce. If open the throttle full up from a standing start and the ski cavitates or is slightly slow to respond then your impeller or sleeve is probably worn . Get it checked on your next service, Cheers Hoot

FX160 ...how fast???? Empty 100km/h

Post  taurangajet Fri Jan 09 2009, 02:56

Thanks for the correction, I thought 100mph sounded a little fast! I was only a couple of km/h off 100 and I didn't duck down so I guess with no rods, no chilli bin and ducking down to reduce wind resistance, I could manage another couple of k's.

Thanks

To me your ski sounds as if it is getting the right KPH. All speedos read differently and anyone telling you the get over 70mph (Ks..?) is full of it unless it is modified. All skis manufactuered in the USA including the biggest horespower ones are supposedly limited to 65mph to meet very stringent regulations I think enforced by Coastguard. My 155HP seadoo that is around 80kgs heavier than your Yamaha gets around 91KPH ish. Supercharged skis certainly get there quicker and have a few more mph top end, but its all personal and what fits your budget and fuel economy desires.
