On trying out jetskifishing on the father inlaws ski GP1300R I always seam to get soaked head to toe. Is it because im on a smaller ski or going to fast?, or is it what you should expect every time out? Its not cold at the moment but I do feel the cold easily and dont want to use a ski for only 1 month of the year? Reason is that I am trying to decide to buy a FX140/160 or a small tinnie. Its also bloody hard to hold a rod and drive at the same time so need to sort out my own fishing vessel soon. Andrew, trying to sort out what im doing yet with set up/boats/jetskis etc.Really enjoying drifting with the soft baits though and ease of launching and cruising out by myself for an hour or so. Been fishing four times this week thanks to the ski.
Cheers

Matt

I seamed to just get hammered, mind you it was a 1.5 m messy swell. Also do your skis foot wells fill with water at rest?

The 2 seaters like the GP1300R get a pounding in the rough stuff. I travelled out with one behind me on a rough day and had to go half the speed I usually would because he could not keep up as they are relatively light and do not have the water line length and weight that the bigger 3 seaters have.

Hopefully I can get a ride on one to see the difference, might try softbaiters but his one dont catch much fish LOL just kidding. I dont mind a bit of spray as you get that in a small boat anyway, but I was taking waves over the top just motoring back from a drift. So was staying completely wet the whole time.

hi Matt,

i have a seadoo gti, they are a three seater, i stay dry most of the time, get a bit of spray once the chop climbs over the 1.5 mark but not much, most of the bigger ski's cut the swell quite well. I have noticed if theres .3 - 1 chop you can get a bit wet if you go to slow.... best of luck, you will never regret getting something bigger!

Hi Kermet, thanks for that. I just dont wanna get wet inside out everytime, mind you only been out four times on the ski fishing. Its not mine, just looking at getting into it as kids too young for a boat and wife dont wanna come out. So would like to make it comfortable and then im IN! I would buy a FX140 or sim seadoo.

Its not such a bad thing that the wife isn't interested in going fishing...

Hi Matt, there is a few GTI owners here and more GTX's I myself would have no reason not to get a GTX for the all round fun purpose, especially jetskifishing. Speak to Fishoe or Jaza they are the latest GTX fishoes, that horsepower and storage is sufficient for reasonable distance trips in all conditions, the GTX has a good resale aswell.

Yes, a very good time to buy if you are patient, those who aren't fishing tend to find they have no reason to head out, hence there is a feew barhains as not may buyers. By October they all go up in price again!

Cool, I spoke to the USA import guy and he suggested a kawasaki STX12S 06 for 11K. How do they compare with a FX140 which is poss the only yammie I can afford. Someone please let me know of any good deals they see come up. He reakoned they are better value for money. Have no seen one though. Are they just as sea worthy/reliable/fish 2 people.
