GPS on phone with marine map

For those of you like me who dont have a fishfinder/gps yet but do have a GPS capable phone.

I have calibrated the LINZ marine chart and loaded this onto my nokia n95 using a free mapping software MGMaps www.mgmaps.com.
It works really well and you can mark on fishing spots etc.
It also lets you have road maps and ive done the whole of NZ.

This software will run on any java capable smartphone. there are versions out there for nokia,blackberry, samsung etc

Only real problem is battery life of your phone and of course the fact that cell phones dont like salt water very much.

I have also used an App called Trekbuddy on my Blackberry 8310, i now have a blackberry 9000 and trekbuddy is even faster on that.

I put my phone into a zip lock back and normally use it through the bag. GPS does eat battery though.
