With your excellent recent sucess when do you find time to gut them at sea? You are always busy hauling in fish!
I have for a long time gutted and gilled at sea, the sooner you get the gills out the fresher the flesh is, and of course on ice.
Another tip for ice, where possible a salt slurry is ideal however for those quick trips when you want to quickly throw some ice in the bin I always have some in the freezer.
All empty milk and soft drink bottles are filled with water and thrown in the chest freezer, when i want ice I break them against the garage floor until the bottles split, this breaks the solid ice inside into good sized chunks, i then peel off the split bottle and empty the ice into a plastic bag for my next trip out.
