Hi jase .
A guy approached me yesterday after i came into shore and started my ski to flush the water out .
He said it sounded like the bearings maybe shot in the shaft and that it sounded like the impellor was
rubbing against something. is this something you can hear , to me it sounds normal.
If he is correct is it a big job .

For a start I wouldn't start the engine at all until at home hooked up to the garden hose. From memory you have a seadoo which you cant even run for long on the hose either. Only time I start my ski when not in water is just a quick check it is starting before I head out and I only leav it running for a sec. If something your impeller was rubbing I think it woudl sound nasty and you would be down on powere but Jase will better be able to answer that for you.

yes i only start it for a split second when i come out of the water and then straight off and at home 2-3 sec max with the hose on , the impellor dosent sound
unusual to me , but now this guy has me concerned . No recognisable loss of power , i was out there for about 4 hours .

tech question for jase Empty noise

Post  swasy Mon Mar 02 2009, 06:04

Hi Guys

my 2 cents worth.

When the ski is run after use and their is water in the system. their can be water falling onto the impeller which are remains from the cooling ssytem. This can in turn sound a little different but obviously is not an issue.

Secondly one can pick up small pieces of shell, pebbles etc. these can also make a noise as the catch on the impeller is they are logged in their some how, this, as above, is not an issue once debris has been dislodged and removed.

How many hours has the ski done?

Hope this helps.

Hi HOTBODZ
it is normal for your jet unit to be noisey when run out of the water and not under load
if you are worried have it checked out by a shop,it is good practice to blow all the excess water out of the exhaust when putting the ski on the trailer at the ramp as this stops the risk of any water getting back up the exhaust and into the engine, and it is safe to run the ski dry for 10 sec or so
