Jetski insurance Empty Jetski insurance

Post  aleigh Mon Jan 04 2010, 23:10

I was wanting any info about insurance on the jetski as due for renewal 31st Jan and I'm away for some of the time till then.

My insurance is with AMI as is house and cars etc so was easiest when jetski purchased

My insurance on a $15400 jetski and $1500 trailer is $531.24 inc GST - Kawasaki STX15F 2008

Jetski parked in garage (as worth more than the car that is now outside) and has a bolt on the trailer to slow down anyone keen enough to try and steal trailer and jetski. Used mostly around Auckland area except for holidays so no big trips.

Anyone have a better deal than that as would like to pursue a cheaper deal as seems low risk

cheers

Andrew

The price you have seems reasonable.

With State I pay about 600 on a 18k ski.

They actually split up the value of ski into...Hull, Motor and trailer.

$320 for 12 mths for $12.5k tower insurance, they wont do it without another policy with them though, is either car or house or contents etc. They were significantly cheaper than any other company i rang around and my last 2 skis have been insured with them and my boat was previously.

PIC Insurance Brokers have just launched a new product that is specific to jetskis called JETSURE. To my knowledge there is no other policy available on the market that is specific to jetskis. They also make allowance for all the extra gear we carry to be covered, i.e Rod Holder, FF, GPS, VHF, Tackle, Rod & Reels etc.

It is not the cheapest, nor is it the most expensive. But me being in the insurance world I can honestly say the cheapest is never usually the best and I would rather pay a little more premium but get the best service and result at claim time.

$100 excess with $1000 for theft, which suits me. best bet however is to ring around and decide who has the best deal to suit your needs.

Just got my AMI insurance bill again (2nd year) and the price has come down due to 15% no claims

Now only $434.76 - much better so will be staying with them - $100 excess - have to look at policy to see what it covers (small boat as far as they concerned)

Starting to look for insurance for my ski.
PIC quote was $922 with $250 excess and $2000 theft excess.
Seemed pretty high. Never asked if garaged, or where I lived, which seemed strange. Anyway search continues.

ClubMarine .
$765 $250 xs with $1000 theft which you don't pay if there are signs of a forced entry to a locked facility.
No cover at all if you sink it without holeing the hull. How likely that is I don't know.

I spent some time and looked around alot of policies.
My findings that work well for me was with AMI.

These Policies are under "Boat Policy" and listed with them as a Jet Ski as they now carry just about ALL watercraft under the "Boat Policy" umbrella!! AMI have made it very clear that their definition of a boat includes Jetskis (and windsurfers for example)!!

I have my ski Insured for $15000 and Trailer at $2700.
Also have informed them of the GPS/Fishfinder as they required accessories over $1000 in value to be listed.

Premium per month = $46.64
Excess on theft = $1000
All other claims = $100

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Most skis are accidentally sunk from the bungs not being put in. Far more common than hitting something. Therefore this policy would not cover you for a bung mistake !

I'm only guessing, but to sink it without putting a hole in it, would mostly occur in the Surf towing in or something, and getting swamped, then the seat comes off and floods the whole engine space - aka sinking.....

That's how that sounds written to me.. It's fairly obvious that the odds are definitely increased whilst being in the surf. Clubmarine in Australia are crap for jetski's, i think the majority of people are insured through SPT
