Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
My plan, maybe not so ingenious, yet I am willing to try. As it is a flat forecast, I am taking a chance putting the 20 litre can I just got from supercheap inside my chilli bin. I plan to put fuel in my ski at my first land stop, then attach empty plastic fuel cell to exterior of my rod holder. As, I don't see myself travelling excess of 40mph on this longer trip, I don't forsee any major issues?
Re: Little Barrier?
Ive got a 10 litre container, I should be able to cope with that with the extra 10 I think.

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Ok crew, Channel it is ( Baby steps) before we hit the big one. We all need to ride within the elements for fuel etc. I was just discussing the different scenarios of a long distance trip and don't mean to put a hoodoo, but this has to be said. Obviously if there is any safety issues, we are all there for support, but if anyone breaks down out in the middle, it is obviously a coast guard call, far to far for a tow with a ski. I hope its not me! Bring on the good conditions and some good fishing. I plan to stop and have lunch at a beach on the Coromandel for those who are keen, makes for a bit more of an enjoyable day on the water. Don't forget ice for your fish!
We can confirm departure time later tonight, I am thinking 5.40am at this stage, I am gased and ready to go from Bucklands Beach, don't forget your cameras crew.

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Sorry to put a damper on things but........my advice would be do it on Monday. The forecast for tomorrow around the top of Cor/Chanel aint to flash at around 13-15knots from the south and there is some rain forecast until around 10AM as opposed to Monday when there will be the big 0-3 knots for most of the day and no rain. My pick would be to head out on Monday and this will be my plan as I think wind is critical in fuel usage and pure enjoyment factor of riding in glass conditions over there. Anyway just my two cents worth. Kepp everyone updated with your plans but if anyone is keen to head wide on Monday as well that is what I will be doing.
Cheers

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Don't take my advice !!! Everyone use their own judgement I am just informing what the forecasters are predicting and we all know how wrong they can be. But my personal pick from SwellMap, WindGuru, MetVue and 3 day rain forecast courtesy of MetService is Monday.
Make your own decisions as I accept NO liability for the weather.
Cheers

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Fair call Fishoe. I would however add another 5 knots onto Windguru for Colville/Channel Is as you can't really compare it to Takapuna. Both sites predict Monday to be the mint day regardless.
You will have wind against tide to start with and then most of the day they will run together. Afternoon however will be wind against tide and being a 3.3M tide and wind from the south will make 10-15knots of wind a longggg trip home, that is if it stays as forecasted and the late drop in wind doesn't occur earlier as planned.
I may seem cynical but I have come back from Channel Is in one of my boats and it cut up bad for the return trip with 20+knots and wind against a big tide. Boat was capable of 55MPH with a 150HP Yamaha was 18.5ft yet still took me 2.5hrs and a huge amount of fuel to get back in. Big trips, especially your first time require sensible planning and I agree the forecast isn't too bad for tomorrow but if it got worse than forecasted and up over 20knots it will not be pleasant but nothing a jetski can't handle, it is just the time it will take and fuel consumption. It may however turn into variable 5 knots all day.. luck of the draw I guess.

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
I'm in, better not get wet! Bring on the coromandel, worst case it will be gannet if the water is choppy. I will at bucklands beach at 5.45am leaving , I will be cruising so anyone late should catch me. I will be on channel 6 and textable. Once at coromandel there isn't much coverage.

Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Trip Cancelled due to 20-25 knots forecasted
Re: Coromandel ROUND 2 Channel Island social trip. Easter Monday
Well crew, I am going Monday rain or shine. Leaving Buckands Beach ramp with Newbie and whoever is keen. If their weather is not as flat as required, I will only be venturing out wide to half way across to Coromandel or Gannet. The forecast is good so far, so Channel Island should be the paln with a lunch break at Coromandel.
