How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Ok, due to a few requests here is a new thread so the King of Jetski Fishing thread can carry on!
Had a small homemade chillibin rig to start with and then decided to start targeting kingfish like we have always done on the boat (over the boat now, ski is much more fun!!) Problem starts when you have a 70 pounder or 3 on board and nowhere to put them...... not to mention the lack of a livebait tank. So went out and brought the biggest bin i could find without going over the top (yeah right!). Thats about when the problems started..... heres we are at as of today, will keep this updated....

Looking good, can't wait to see the Kingy in it!
Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Not wishing to appear ignorant but won't it be a bit of a stretch across the small refrigerator you have on the back to get to the rods etc?
Seems to be a long way back from the back of the seats.

Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Thanks for the thought, once you are seated its actually not that far, once i get it fitted up i will take a pic of the whole ski so you can see it. There are another two rod holders up the front of the bin for the rods in action and may add another couple for net / gaff etc. This is version one as a prototype, will see how we go from here

Watching with interest as this develops, has Jetski Brian inspired you?
Wouldnt mind seeing how the thing is mounted, is it easy to get on and off etc. so you can use the ski for other activities?

Thats why the legs come foward, i carry 2 x 20 Litre fuel containers when needed........... The supercharged 1800 isnt what i would call economical!!! Unless its in learner mode, but whats the point in that

Had a look at Jetski Brians one along with everything else i could find on the net (which wasnt much!) His was a bit too tall and permanent for my liking.
If you have a look at the last picture you can see a flat plate at the end of the pipe, this has a hole in it which bolts through the D shackle on the back of the ski each side. Then the bar in front of the bin attaches to the ski tow hook with a turn shackle. It takes about 3 minutes (including finding where i put the bloody spanner after last time!!) Its rigid enough to tow the kids off the bottom of the frame so wont be taking it off too often anyway.

Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Bin is 13kg, frame is 27kg, so all up its 40kg.......... Just like having one of the kids on the back!! Weight is still lower than a person and with the trim tilt on the yammy it should be fine. Even if i fill the livebait tank to its capacity then i am looking at about 80kg all up. More concerned about having 3 kingis over 30kg each in the bin

1 Litre of water = 1kg so might be a little heavier than your estimates depending how full the live tank is, but with your 80kg estimate all up the 100 litre bin would be just over a 3rd full?? You are using the yamahas pump to circulate water is there an overflow at half full?
Like the way your thinking though, arent we kiwi's creative!

Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Just having a look at the pictures and the weights and wondering if the bin will be supported by the back platform on the jetski or just via top an bottom connections of the frame.
If the latter won't you have to watch the weight shearing off the connections when going through the waves? Just wondered with up 80kg moving up and down without a direct support from the ski.

Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Yep, the tank runs 1/3 to 1/2 full depending on which bugs are pulled out. Typically we catch our livebait in the same spot as the kingfish so wont be travelling long distances with a full tank of water. The pump is using the yamaha tell tail which is bloody handy! It can be turned on and off from the front of the bin.
At the moment the frame is connected with the bin sitting off the deck. The front is sitting on 100mm square plates that sit down in the footwells, and can always put a support under the bin down to the rear deck if needed. I have jumped up and down on it and see no flex in any connections at this stage but wont take that for granted based on the weather we have been through in the past!!
Please keep the feedback coming, theres always something i havent thought off and it may save me some entertaining trial and error moments

Re: How to fit a 100 Litre bin and livebait tank to a Jetski - Version One!
Yeah some supports might be a good idea, two "feet" that come down from the bracket under the chili onto the swim platform with a 80-100mm disc on the bottom.

Now I hate to say it but..........you have just increased the pressure on yourself to deliver some beasts come weigh-in time. Only 8 more sleeps to go !!
